My current job is extremely customer service centered and sometimes it’s the worst job in the world. I know this may sound like an over exaggeration, but believe me when I say people who work in customer service know a whole different side of people.

It is truly amazing to see how different people can be when they want something or when they don’t like the answer you give them. I have started conversations where it began easy and smooth and by the end of it I was getting screamed at and cussed out.

At the end of the day my job is to do my best to assist you, but there are some things that I physically have no control over. Even as a manager I don’t have unlimited power.

There are so many things that customer service workers really despise. Here are just a few

  • Being screamed at
  • Getting cussed at
  • Asking for a manager (who by the way, is going to tell you the exact same thing)
  • Questioning the policy
  • The sass
  • Questioning why I’m asking you questions (I’m just trying to get more information to better assist you)

And these are just a few of the things that are dealt with on a regular basis.

At the end of the day my goal and job is to do my best to help you, but if you start acting rude, I’m going to tell what I can do for you to assist. If you don’t like that I don’t know how else you want me to help you. I can’t break the rules for you nor am I going to. I can’t look the other way while you do what you want. I can’t make a one time exception and I can’t bend the policy just this once. If you get mad and think that the rules aren’t being followed while you are asking me go break the rules for you it’s not going to happen. I don’t know what else to tell you at that point.

I want to help you to the best of my ability and I will do all that I can to help. There are situations that happen that can be worked with. It is called customer service for a reason because it is about the customer. For the most part the policy is pretty black and white, but if you had something happen that was out of your control we will do our best to help.

No matter where you go there will always be a customer service agent who is there to help. We truly understand having a bad day and we understand why your anger can get taken out on us. But please remember we are people too and we have feelings just like you. We will do our best to serve you to the best of our ability, just please try and be patient with us.

And for all my customer service workers out there, remember it’s just a job and you can leave all those struggles at the door.
